Dakelh Territory, Prince George, BC. Canada. – The Carrier Sekani Tribal Council (CSTC) is inviting neighboring First Nations communities, Provincial and Federal Governments, and proponents of natural gas developments to a BC First Nations Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Summit to be held at the Civic Centre in Prince George on October 9th and 10th. The LNG Summit will be preceded by a First Nations LNG workshop that is co-hosted by the BC First Nations Energy and Mining Council and the First Nations Financial Management Board at the same venue on October 8th.
Tribal Chief Terry Teegee stated, “We’ve been hearing from our members and other First Nation communities of all the challenges these projects impose on our people. We’d like to know more about natural gas policies, operations and the cumulative impacts that will occur on our traditional territories.” Teegee added, “The BC FN LNG Summit will bring together industry, government and First Nations to share information, discuss projects and examine risks vs. rewards, including cumulative impacts.”
October 9th session involves presentations from LNG proponents, Federal and Provincial governments, BC First Nation Leadership Council and also invited Asian delegates to discuss the implications that these mega projects will have internationally, nationally and regionally.
On October 10th, this event will be closed to registered First Nations only. This is a period to allow leaders to learn more about natural gas projects and how to collaborate amongst our First Nations communities.
The event is by invitation only and is geared towards building relationships and alliances among First Nations communities to address many of the complicated challenges proposed by these mega projects. It is not a public event. All invitees are required to register. For more information including sponsorship opportunities can be found on the CSTC website: www.carriersekani.ca
