Hadih/Hi everybody,
Here is a little clarity on how the Technical Services Unit (TSU) funding through CSTC can be used by member nations.
To begin- TSU funding is not much; but it is bonus funding on top of what a nation already receives.
Each year, CSTC develops a work plan outlining how we can support Member Nations through what we often refer to as supplemental or “bonus” funding. While the amount is limited, it is intended to assist Nations with priority technical needs, particularly in housing and lands planning.
Typically, we issue a call-out inviting Nations to submit requests for support (e.g., housing and infrastructure-related reports such as FNIIP, ACRs, E-ACRs, asbestos testing, inspections, etc.). Funding is then allocated based on those submissions.
Eligible Use of Funds
These funds must be used for technical reports related to on-reserve infrastructure. This may include:
- Engineering or technical reports (e.g., housing assessments, community buildings, schools, health centres)
- Planning documents or studies
- Mapping or surveying of reserve lands
Ineligible Expenses
Please note that these funds cannot be used for:
- Equipment purchases
- Wages or staffing costs
- Permits or operational expenses (utilities, internet, fuel, etc.)
- Vehicles, machinery, or maintenance
- Electronics or communication devices
Additionally, funding is limited to projects on reserve lands only.
In summary, these funds are intended to offset the cost of professional services (e.g., engineering or technical reports) related to existing or planned infrastructure on reserve.
Please feel free to reach out ito our TSU manager Christina Lehtila (tsumanager@cstc.bc.ca) if you would like to discuss potential projects or next steps.
