Carrier Sekani Tribal Council (CSTC) provides political and technical support to six First Nations who belong to the CSTC Society. The Tribal Council is an advocate on behalf of its member nations for their interests. The Council also provides technical and professional services to its member nations in the areas of fisheries, education, economic development, community and infrastructure planning, forestry, financial management, and negotiations.
The CSTC is a Non-Profit Organization located in Prince George BC, on the traditional unceded lands of the Lheidli T’enneh, and is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the position of;
GENERAL MANAGER
Job Summary
We are looking for a self-motivated and results-driven General Manager (GM) for our organization. The GM supports overarching planning and implementation of the organization’s mandates and strategic plans. The GM guides administrative implementation of CSTC policies, ensures procedures are followed, and supervises staff. The GM administers the CSTC annual staff performance reviews. The GM participates in strategic planning for transformative change in the organization. As well as enhances efficiencies and the organization’s image, to meet overall growth objectives.
Duties:
· Ensures CSTC budgets are prepared and presented to the CTSC Board of Directors;
· Maintains administrative staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees;
· Supervises clerical and administrative personnel by communicating job expectations, appraising job results, co-developing training, job coaching, and career development for staff;
· Initiates and coordinates goals, deadlines, and projects with department heads;
· Updates and implements policies and procedures to improve operations and function of each department area;
· Monitors and procures needed supplies for office, reception, mailroom, and kitchen;
· Working with Department heads to manage approved budgets and resources;
· Updating policies and coordinating best practices for managing operational costs;
· Ensuring respectful communications and service with membership;
· Leading change management concepts and plans;
· Working to support governance model(s) and structures that support its member communities in Nation Building and Transformative Change;
· Prepares contracts for advisers and consultants as needed; and
· Other tasks as required.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate has prior experience working within First Nations organizations, with an understanding of reconciliation, the United Nations Declaration of Indigenous Peoples, Truth and Reconciliation Call to Action, and communities’ culture and traditions. The successful candidate for this role should possess:
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills,
• Superior knowledge of organizational resiliency and functions,
• Strong budgeting and finance skills,
• Strong leadership qualities,
• Highly organized,
• Strong work ethic,
• Meticulous attention to detail, and
• Technologically savvy.
Preferred qualifications can be a combination of the following.
• At least two years of program administration and/or management,
• Human Resource training and/or experience,
• A degree in Business Management or a Masters in Business Administration is an asset, and/or relevant work history; and
• Experience as a Manager in a First Nations setting.
Conditions of Employment
Must be able to travel a minimal amount.
Must have access to a reliable vehicle and hold a valid driver’s license.
Must obtain and maintain a Criminal Records Check.
