Shovel Lake Wildfire (R11498) This fire is impacting Stellat’en First Nation, Nadleh Whut’en and Nak’azdli Whut’en.
Location: 6.7 km north of Endako
Status: 50,831 hectares estimated
Cause: under investigation
Resources: 118 firefighters and 47 pieces of heavy equipment.
Objectives: Today on the west flank crews will be conducting a planned ignition from the intersection of the Owl Lake Road and Bomberger along a guard that is being completed to Stern Lake on the north side of Tatin Lake.
Status: The Shovel Lake fire pushed approximately 5-7 kilometres on the east flank. The Cunningham FSR has not been breached and Hwy 27 is still open at this time. Structural Protection is being conducted in the community of Fort St. James and in the Nadleh Whut’en community.
On the southeast flank the fire burned down to the png pipeline to the north of Fraser Lake.

BC Wildfire Service continues to implement an Area Order Restriction to protect public safety due to the wildfire’s rate of spread and to avoid interference with fire suppression efforts. The area restriction will remain in place until noon on Sept. 15, 2018, or until the order is rescinded.
